Don, In the 1961 photos I posted a photo of the patch from 1961 to 1964. I would like to a photo of your patch. dougo
Hi Mike, good to hear from you old friends. It has been a long time and I maybe a little rounder in the mid belly. The last time we went out was with Riley and his wife, I was to stay in your apartment but I forgot your apartment number. Found your apartment building but got lost looking for the room, It could have been the beer intake. I tried to sleep in my car but the cops ran me off, so I drove back to San Luis Obispo.
Riley stopped by to see me in Ventura around 1973 he was back in the Navy.
Mike I posted a photo of you and me its in the 2008 photo’s. Your Friend Doug O.Schuler, Thank you for all your hard work. I do enjoy stopping by to see if any of my old ship mates have found the site.

Was Joe Cruz GMG2 or Van Soest GMG1 onboard with you? I worked with them from 1961 to 1964. Doug OntiverosJeff no offense taken it should be a good game, the last time the Patriots got lucky to win. Doug
Jeff, I would like to see the Patriots go 19-0 but it should be a good game.
Jeff, I’m not sure how many shipmates check out the site from day to day, but I sent some photos that did not post, so I sent an email and have not had a replie. Keep up the good work and maybe more will staet posting. DougOn 23 April 1964 I became a Golden Shellback on our way to Sydney & Melbourne Australlia, that is my #1&2 ports.
#3 is Kagoshima Japan, the Ashtabula was the first Navy ship to make this port for liberty since the end of World War ll. We made the port in 1961 & 1962. As you come up the bay you would see big lava rocks floating out to sea, and I had the best ice cream at a park in Kagoshima. -
