Hey Jim, don’t know if you remember me, use to run around with David Burnett in Deck Dept. 74′- 76′ and worked on the boats. Would be great to get to that reunion.
Hey Steve, Deck Ape here to. Spent most of my time on the Capt.s Gig and working on the boats for BM1 Haney and Handley. Mucked the tanks, greased wires and animal blood wash down on the main deck that stunk like everything. Remember Bosn Braswell pulling us out of bunks in the middle of the night in bear feet to secure main deck, but what a great time for a first duty station.
I served aboard from 74-75 Deck Dept. was the best time I ever had during my naval career. Movies below deck on the reel, chasing cockroaches off my bunk comming down from the mid-watch and good friends, David Burnett, Larry Sheets, Dave Paine,BM1 Handley and the rest
It was the first ship I reported aboard on in 1975 and it has always left a lasting impression. I made life time friends on board and made the navy a career because of it. I ran the Captains Gig while on board and got into as much trouble as I possibly could, How about that bosn Braswell!
remember the orange face and the flying A very well, I used to tow Mo Peel on water ski’s from behind the gig funnest thing you ever saw and him yelling at the engineman telling him to get the boat going faster.
