One of the fondest memories I have of the Bula was my first underway and UNREP in 1976. The Oriskany was on its way back to the states for decommissioning. We got on station, hoses were across and we started pumping…..then we dropped the load. Emergency breakway and helter skelter as bodies flew and ducked for cover all over the place. I can still hear the sound of the cables whipping back and smashing against the superstructure. I could only pray and wonder what I had gotten myself into. Turned out to be one of the greatest experiences in my life, thanks to all of my shipmates in the Supply Department.
